Comment: I'd like to request that this DYK be run on November 18 or the morning of November 19 (California time) since Big Game between the UC Berkeley and Stanford football teams will take place the evening of November 19, and the hook fits that very well.

Cannot find Berkeley in the source. It just says the University of California. Do you have another source? Hawkeye7 (talk) 23:51, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

He refers to "Cal" a couple sentences after "University of California" in the source, and refers again to "Cal" in the following paragraph. On the following page, the interviewer refers to "Cal" again. As can be seen from Cal and University of California, Berkeley, "Cal" is the nickname of UC Berkeley. More than you ever wanted to know about the naming of the university can be found on p14 at http://identity.berkeley.edu/guidelines/berkeley-editorial-style-09.pdf The school was originally known as University of California, before other schools were added to the system in the state of California. I would say to stick with original wording of UC Berkeley as Cal is a bit informal.—Bagumba (talk) 21:42, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes "Cal" refers to California-Berkeley. One would never refer to UCLA, UC-Davis, UC-Santa Barbara, etc. as "Cal." —Ute in DC (talk) 00:23, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
