I personally prefer ALT0, but the hook is an alternative. Grimes2 (talk) 11:23, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
My opinion is, that the hook of a unknown person should give more information. Grimes2 (talk) 17:41, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. Acceptable! - I don't care much for any link before the subject, and I don't like to put him in the Mozart-tenor drawer. Three times Mozart ... - if it was Beethoven at least ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:18, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
I formatted the opera in ALT2 (renamed). No redirect is allowed on the Main page, period, and operas need to be italic. I thought the playing of a magic flute (in English) might be attractive even to readers who never heard of Die Zauberflöte, and I am not willing to compromise with the opera's English title when he sang in German. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:23, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Another thought that went into the original hook: I intentionally didn't say something like "tenor" or "professor" or "opera" in the beginning, to not loose those who hate these words before the key thing is even said. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:27, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, I'm still learning. Grimes2 (talk) 19:14, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
  • Article does meet DYK requirements and a QPQ has been done, but perhaps something else can be said about Strehl? A hook focusing on reviews of his career would probably be more effective here. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 01:17, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the offer, Grimes2. - I believe that while there are still people alive who know Wunderlich, more will know Abbado, and having been chosen for that long-awaited event says a lot. - Quite generally: I do prefer facts to the personal opinion of some no-name critic, even if I share that opinion.- We had two "opinion" hooks recently, and they garnered just a similar amount of views as the others. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:05, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
The reviewer was Alan Blyth. Grimes2 (talk) 07:13, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Yes, but please say so in a hook. The other concern still applies. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:30, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Don't like the hook, too many links. Grimes2 (talk) 10:01, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
ALT4 ... that a review by Alan Blyth of the performances of tenor Christoph Strehl (pictured) described him as singing "with a Wunderlich-like strength and beauty"?
Does this work better? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:57, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
I think yes. This is something different from the normal hook for a singer (usually with a performance or recording). Grimes2 (talk) 12:54, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
  • I think we should be good to go with ALT4 (which is basically just a rewording of ALT3a), although if for whatever reason ALT4 can't be used, ALT3a can be used as a backup. I'm not actually sure if I'm allowed to approve ALT4 since I proposed it, so to be on the safe side I'm requesting a second opinion for ALT4. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:07, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
I won't fight ALT4, but think that "singing" comes late - and until then we have no idea what he does (teaching? engineering? ...), and those who don't remember Wunderlich and don't bother to click will not even get that he is a tenor (vs. counter-tenor, bass-baritone ...). We have millions of readers who will not click. I still believe that Abbado - who died more recently than Wunderlich - would be the hookier person to mention, and his wisdom to wait for the Zauberflöte until old age, and - with all his experience - choosing this tenor could be served on the side. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
I've added the word "tenor" to ALT4 to address the "lateness" issue. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:18, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt and Narutolovehinata5: I'll approve ALT4—reasonably hooky, centered on career, and within character limit. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 08:42, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
