alt1: ... that Kyiv's Central Post Office was built after Soviet forces deliberately destroyed its predecessor (pictured) less than a year after it was completed?
Comment: i walked past a staircase and came up with what i think is a more quirky caption. if you feel it is lacking in either humor or taste, please feel free to revert it to what i had originally, or suggest a better one.

Comment Maybe add a bit of context with “. . . during their 1941 retreat from the Nazis.” —MichaelZ. 16:46, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Michael Z., thanks for the suggestion. i had actually considered that option before, but ended up deliberately leaving out that context. the idea was to let the reader first wonder if the destruction had anything to do with the current conflict, before the word "Soviet" ruled out that possibility. the photo would then give a clue as to how long ago the destruction happened, and hopefully, the reader would have then guessed that it occurred sometime during world war ii before clicking on the link to confirm.i usually don't like hooks that feel like clickbait, so had tried to design this hook to give enough hints that a reader would have likely been able to estimate around when the explosion occurred. personally, i had not known about the 1941 demolition of kyiv until conducting research for this article, so i think it would be nice for readers to independently realize from reading the hook that soviet forces deliberately destroyed part of kyiv during world war ii. it is a shame that we don't actually have an article about the 1941 demolition of kyiv, but at least uk wikipedia has one, which i linked in the article.in any case, i am certainly open to including the context if others feel that it is more appropriate to mention it. dying (talk) 02:30, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
Comment : I like the modified photo caption. I would also prefer a little more context, though perhaps not quite as much as Michael Z. suggested. Reordering a little bit changes the focus enough to do that, I think, by highlighting "Soviet" a little more. And how about adding a little more ironic timeframe about how long it was used, to give a wee bit more grab:
ALT1 ... that Kyiv's Central Post Office was built after Soviet forces deliberately destroyed its predecessor (pictured) less than a year after it was completed?
oh, i like this, Radzy0! i can't believe i didn't think to mention in the hook how quickly after the building's completion it was destroyed, considering that i had mentioned it in the same sentence in the article. anyway, i've stuck my alt0 in favor of your alt1, and have also copied it above to make it more clear to promoters that the image also goes with this hook. dying (talk) 09:20, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
