Carolyn Shaw Bell

[edit]
  • ... that economics professor Carolyn Shaw Bell established a model that sent a disproportionate number of students at Wellesley College into careers in economics and business? Source: "YET none of these colleges -- nor any other college or university -- has produced proportionately as many corporate women in high positions as Wellesley....Wellesley has Carolyn Bell, who within the school set a model...She obviously influenced enormous numbers of women...She was a fierce promoter of Wellesley economics graduates." [1]
  • ALT1:... that an award named for Carolyn Shaw Bell is given by the American Economic Association to economists who promote the success of women in this profession? Source: "Dr. Bell carried her equality campaign to the American Economic Association, where she was a founder of the group's Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession. In 1998, the committee established the Carolyn Shaw Bell Award for the person who has most advanced women in the profession." [2]

  • I will perform the DYK review for this article.—CaroleHenson(talk) 13:57, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: Yes

Image eligibility:

QPQ: None required.
Overall:
  1. In general, the article is neutral. One opportunity is "This was a tremendously valuable resource to generations of Wellesley women." to either find a quote from a secondary source or reword this sentence, since this is coming from her bio in CSWEP News with the her daughter's assistance it is not an independent source. A news source for this info would be better. Rewording the "tremendously valuable..." sentence, which is not encyclopedic, it another way to resolve the issue.
  2. Regarding the first hook, it seems that from the sources it would be more accurate to say "established a model that sent a disproportionate number of students..." - but perhaps this is getting a little long.
  3. The alternate hook looks good.
