Camino Island
[edit]... that in order to publicize his latest novel, Camino Island, John Grisham (pictured) made his first book tour in 25 years? Source: John Grisham fans will get a double treat in June — a new book and a 12-city tour, his first such extensive tour in a quarter century.- ALT1:

- Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Ariel Award for Best Actress (7th of 8 QPQs)
Created by TonyTheTiger (talk). Self-nominated at 00:42, 15 June 2017 (UTC).
- Article is newly created, written neutrally and clocks at 1502 characters, so it's long enough. Image is properly licensed and used in the article. Hooks are cited inline and verified. QPQ has been attended to. Preference to ALT1. Bluesphere 07:29, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
- Can you explain your preference for ALT1?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:12, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
Returning to prep per discussion at WT:DYK#Prep 6 - Camino Island. The article has an tagged empty section, and on second look, is quite short on facts per WP:DYKSG#D7. Yoninah (talk) 20:16, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- I filled in the empty section.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:26, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- On July 11th and 13th my talk page was hit with these two messages. Above I responded to the first and am not sure why the second was put on my talk page.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 03:14, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- TonyTheTiger, the second message was due to the hook having just been pulled from prep, but not yet having had its DYK template restored to the Approved page; it was re-added to that page shortly thereafter, and is there now.
- Note that I was about to call for a new reviewer, but a check of the article resulted in the removal of a review quote that made no sense in context, and a place where the source given did not support the sentence in question—the facts are different in the source from in the article. I have also struck ALT1, since the "rare departure" statement is not supported by the source, and the article only says that it's a "departure" (the source uses "vacation"). A bit more work needs to be done for the article to be accurate; also, as Yoninah noted a month ago, the article is "short on facts per WP:DYKSG#D7", and more substance is still needed. Once these are addressed, I'll be happy to call for that new reviewer. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:18, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
ALT2:... that the crime fiction novel Camino Island marks a departure from legal thrillers for John Grisham (pictured)?-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:04, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- TonyTheTiger, have you actually taken a look at Grisham's bibliography? This is far from his first "departure"—he writes books that aren't legal thrillers every few years—so as a hook it's misleading (doesn't really "mark" a departure) and not all that interesting. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:26, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- I have reverted one of your three edits to the article as explained in the edit summary.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:28, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
ALT3:... that John Grisham (pictured) conceived of the crime fiction novel Camino Island with his wife on a long car ride to Florida?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 20:31, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Comment: The source for ALT0 does not say it is his first tour in 25 years, but that it is his first big/extensive/national tour in 25 years. (His own site doesn't have such qualifiers, however). ALT3, however, is supported by the source. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:04, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- ALT3 is supported by the source; indeed the phrase "a long car ride to Florida" is taken directly from it, and shouldn't be. Indeed, since the NYT review is just repeating Grisham's words here from somewhere (they said he "has said" that he and his wife "dreamed up" the book during that car trip), it would be best for the article and hook to find those prior statements and (presumably) additional detail, and incorporate them and their source(s) into the article and thence the hook. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:39, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- I have changed the phrasing, which I think is part of the issue, but I am not sure what the expectation is regarding prior statements. It is an odd directive as I understand it.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:40, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

ALT3a:... that John Grisham (pictured) conceived of the crime fiction novel Camino Island with his wife during a lengthy road trip to Florida?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:35, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- @TonyTheTiger and BlueMoonset: Here's what is probably the original source, dated 8 days before the NYT article: http://www.npr.org/2017/06/04/531444454/john-grisham-on-his-latest-heist-novel-camino-island. Tony, I'm leaving it to you to incorporate this proposed hook (and the source!) into the article, but assuming you do that, here's a suggestion:
- ALT4: "... that John Grisham (pictured) said his novel Camino Island was conceived on a road trip to Florida while talking about stolen books with his wife?" --Usernameunique (talk) 00:29, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- @TonyTheTiger and BlueMoonset: Now that Tony has added the NPR interview, I've struck the earlier hooks. ALT4 needs to be reviewed. --Usernameunique (talk) 06:21, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
- Approving ALT4, which is interesting and cited appropriately. Otherwise relying on reviews provided by Bluesphere and Yoninah. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:15, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
