Butt fumble

[edit]
  • Reviewed: 1983 Luzon earthquake

  • Date and length are fine. The hook has insufficient context - it needs to mention the sport. There is also the question of whether the article and the hook "focus unduly on negative aspects of living individuals". The whole article is about a player's mistake. I think we may need more input in this discussion. StAnselm (talk) 22:42, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Does the hook really need to specify the context? I was under the impression that DYK hooks are allowed to be intentionally vague, so that curious readers click through to the article. A lot of the successful hooks without images in Wikipedia:Did you know/Statistics#Non-lead hooks with at least 15,000 views follow this approach.
About the focus of the article, I could mitigate the negativity by mentioning Sanchez's championship runs more prominently, and including his passing statistics at the end of the game. I think there are also quotes from the head coach that could be added, to the effect that the game was lost by the whole team, not any particular player, and that Sanchez would remain the starter (although he didn't). Do you think such material could solve your concerns? Melchoir (talk) 23:10, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
As far as the hook goes, I was thinking of Supplementary guideline C2: "Don't wrongly assume that everyone worldwide knows what country or sport you're talking about." As far as the negativity goes, I'm still not sure, and would like the input of a few more editors. StAnselm (talk) 23:19, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
In light of the consensus at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Asking for consensus determination: are negative articles eligible for DYK? I withdraw my concerns about the negativity. There is still the (very small) problem of context for the hook. StAnselm (talk) 07:09, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Okay, how about this? ... that the butt fumble, an infamous play in American football, has been retired as the undefeated champion of SportsCenter's "Worst of the Worst" poll, having won a record-breaking 40 weeks in a row? Melchoir (talk) 07:37, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, the new hook has sufficient context is (just) within the required length, and is cited. StAnselm (talk) 07:59, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
