British Rail Class 700

[edit]
The first day of Desiro City Class 700 units on Thameslink services from Luton to Rainham at Strood
The first day of Desiro City Class 700 units on Thameslink services from Luton to Rainham at Strood

* ... that the Class 700 is the first Desiro City train that was built by Siemens for use on Thameslink services in the UK?

  • ... that Thameslink passengers have likened the seats on the Class 700 trains to "ironing boards"?

  • @Pkbwcgs: The DYK promotion was made on June 6, so this nomination is out of date for the time period (one week max), I'm afraid. Raymie (tc) 00:48, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
  • @Raymie: Sorry, what do you mean? The DYK nomination was made on the 30th June and what do you mean by it being out of date. I don't understand. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:21, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
  • @Pkbwcgs: If I'm reading the rules correctly, the nomination must be made within a week of promotion to GA (sorry, that's what I meant). That was June 6, so the latest this could have been accepted was the 13th. Raymie (tc) 18:40, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
  • @Raymie: Why?! Does that mean the article is no longer eligible for DYK. That's not fair. The rules need changing in my opinion. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:31, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
  • @Pkbwcgs: the rules have been around for a while, but for an uninformed first-time nominator, Raymie can IAR and go ahead with the review, even though the nomination is 3 weeks late. Raymie, would you like to do that? Yoninah (talk) 00:45, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
  • @Pkbwcgs: Of course. The article was promoted to GA, and I don't see any textual issues. Is there a citation that specifically mentions the fact that this was the first Desiro City train built by Siemens for use on these services (to match the hook)? Raymie (tc) 00:56, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
  • @Raymie: Yes, here. As the Class 707 was built in 2017 this is not the first train. An alternative hook would be,
ALT1: ... that the Class 700 is the first ever train on the new Desiro City range by Siemens that was launched in the UK for use on Thameslink services?
Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:12, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
  • I think my larger issue is that the hook is very jargon-y and not very interesting; not only that, I can't trace it to a specific citation in the article. As someone who is not terribly familiar with this area of expertise, it doesn't really do anything for me. I'm gonna suggest a couple hooks that I think will be more interesting to a general audience. Raymie (tc) 18:47, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
ALT2: ... that the award of the contract to build the British Rail Class 700 series trains to Siemens was controversial because the trains were to be built in Germany? [1]
ALT3: ... that Thameslink passengers have likened the seats on the British Rail Class 700 series trains to "ironing boards"? [2]
@Raymie: I like ALT3 because the controversy of the "ironing board" seats in Thameslink Class 700s has been in the news a lot. I would suggest slightly amending it to ... that Thameslink passengers have compared and likened the seats on the Class 700 trains to "ironing boards"? Thameslink customers will, therefore, be interested in this. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:35, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
I don't like "compared and likened" — maybe remove the "compared and" part? I'd approve the DYK with that hook, but it will probably need another nominator to review. Raymie (tc) 22:11, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
@Raymie: I have removed "compared and". This is now the hook:
ALT4: ... that Thameslink passengers have likened the seats (pictured) on the Class 700 trains to "ironing boards"? Pkbwcgs (talk) 07:05, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
I like, but another nominator should take a look. Raymie (tc) 22:03, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi again. I'm happy to complete this review. ALT4 hook ref verified and cited inline. The article is long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, and no close paraphrasing seen. All the images in the article are freely licensed and very sharp. I'd like to suggest this image of the seats to go with the hook. ALT4 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 01:10, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
