Brett Cantor
[edit]... that Judge Lance Ito allowed O. J. Simpson's defense to review the case file on nightclub owner Brett Cantor's unsolved killing 25 years ago today, because of the similarities in the crimes?Source: "Judge Ito also agreed to allow Mr. Simpson's lawyers to review evidence gathered in the investigation of an unsolved 1993 murder that his lawyers say is similar to the slayings he is charged with. The judge did not disclose further details about the case, calling the matter confidential, but it apparently involved the murder of Brett Cantor, a 25-year-old Los Angeles music promoter who died of multiple stab wounds, including a slashed throat, on July 30, 1993." The New York Times, September 22, 1994

- Comment: As the hook suggests, I have an anniversary date in mind for this one again: July 30, the 25th anniversary of the killing.

- @Daniel Case: Better sourcing might be needed here to clarify about this case being used in the Simpson trial defense. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 13:24, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: I don't know how you could get much better than the New York Times article I used. (And the point of the hook was that the defense was allowed to review the case file, not that they used it during trial). Daniel Case (talk) 15:04, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Noted. My concern was actually more to do with the wording rather than the sourcing: what happened is that Daniel's source above used a speculating source, but the sources in the article are more explicit. In any case, this issue has been resolved, and given that the special occasion request is very close, I'll be giving the full review.

- Hi, I came by to promote this, and noted that the special occasion date is July 30, not July 25, so I changed the heading under Special Occasions hooks. I find it hard to get to the point and the subject of the hook because there are 2 names before him. Could you write a hook with the subject's name in the front?
Also, since this is a 25th-anniversary of the murder, perhaps you could write the hook around that factoid. Similar hooks which marked an important anniversary have garnered a lot of hooks.Oh, you did that. Yoninah (talk) 19:07, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: This needs to be resolved if the hook is to be run on the date specified. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:59, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Cwmhiraeth: Yes; it will be. I just got back from Cape Town and my brain's kind of mush at the moment; I will attend to it tomorrow when I have gotten some rest.
I will just add that this is a little difficult to work on as this is the only way I found to use the active voice and keep the hook short enough. Daniel Case (talk) 04:15, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- OK, if it is more important that the subject's name be in front ... I disclaim all responsibility for this mangling of succint English prose, however. @Yoninah and Cwmhiraeth::
- ALT1:
... that the LAPD's case file on Brett Cantor's unsolved killing 25 years ago today was approved by Judge Lance Ito for review by O. J. Simpson's defense team, since there were similar stabbing patterns on the bodies? - ALT2:
... that since Brett Cantor's fatal stab wounds 25 years ago today were similar to those on Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, Judge Lance Ito allowed O. J. Simpson's defense to review the LAPD case file?Daniel Case (talk) 04:35, 26 July 2018 (UTC)- I will leave these for Yoninah to consider because I will then be able to move the hook into prep. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:13, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, Daniel Case. I think ALT2 has the more active voice. I think you should tighten it to reduce the overlinking, as follows:
