Amby McConnell

[edit]

Amby McConnell's 1911 baseball card

Created/expanded by Bloom6132 (talk). Self nom at 02:27, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

  • Comment: : I think the hook is great, under the 200 char limit and the improvements quite valuable. It's new enough, long enough-- but I'm not sure it has been improved 5X. (As this is my first attempt to contribute back to DYK, I haven't figured out prosesize.js yet and am hoping someone more experienced will follow up on this comment.) Also, I have some style comments but put them on the Talk page. Good sources. Would be appropriate for the World Series. [deadhenry] (talk) 03:38, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Just insert:
    javascript:importScript('User:Dr pda/prosesize.js'); getDocumentSize();
    into the URL field when you viewing McConnell's article. Then, go to the article history and select the version before the one where I started expansion. Once again, insert the script above. From my experience, you'll probably have to press enter twice in order for the script to work. Also, the styling and wording is not one of the five criterion for DYK. That comes in later if this article is being considered for good article status. —Bloom6132 (talk) 09:10, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the word count info; the article indeed is a qualifying improvement from the previous version. However, it's my understanding that style and wording are part of the DYK criteria. Article 3.1 above states: Within policy – meets core policies and guidelines, and in particular: is neutral links to WP:NPOV and that links to WP:W2W. I don't think there is anything major wrong here but feel I should defer to a more experienced editor. To me it's good to go and if no one follows up, I will be bold and approve this later tonight. • I've finished addressing all the three points you made. I left one "however" in there because the source used ([1]) justifies its use. It first states, "he slumped back to a .254 average" before saying "McConnell returned in 1907 to the Eastern League with Providence, enjoying his best season yet." It implies that these two factors (poor performance and rebounding) are both connected. —Bloom6132 (talk) 18:39, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
I concede that I'm being picky. Now I will be bold. Well done! Approved. [+][deadhenry] (talk) 19:22, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
