40 acres and a mule

[edit]

  • Comment: Anyone have opinions about "40" v. "forty"? And please see other questions on talk page. (Thanks!) Here are a couple alternative hooks:
  • ALT1 ... that the promise of "forty acres and a mule" originated in part from military policies for managing refugee camps?
  • ALT2 ... that some folks had already obtained 40 acres, if not a mule, when Andrew Johnson ordered their land restored to its prewar owners?

  • Article meets DYK criteria and was expanded enough. I assume good faith on the offline references. It would be good to get this article reassessed for a rating. I am neutral about what hook is promoted. SL93 (talk) 17:46, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
