Template:Cite whitelink/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template creates an invisible link with a given destination anchor in order to resolve scripted warning messages about citations with no in-links pointing to them.

Usage

[edit]

If the script is reporting citations with no links pointing to them, these warnings can be suppressed with this template. For example, if it's reporting these example valid anchor IDs:

CITEREFBrand1968, CITEREFFine1994, CITEREFGeanakoplos1959, and CITEREFVan_Tricht2011

somewhere in the article (in or near the appropriate reference section is probably best) add this:

{{cite whitelink|CITEREFBrand1968|CITEREFFine1994|CITEREFGeanakoplos1959|CITEREFVan_Tricht2011}}

The anchor IDs may be copied directly from the scripot error message, or a harvid composed of the last name(s) of the author(s) followed by the year may be used instead:

{{cite whitelink|{{harvid|Brand|1968}}|{{harvid|Fine|1994}}|{{harvid|Geanakoplos|1959}}|{{harvid|Van_Tricht|2011}} }}

which produces the identical result.

Notes

[edit]

The template may also be used to keep chapter citations together with the book they are a part of, even if not all the chapters are cited in the body of the article.
