This template is used to cite court cases listed in the New Zealand Legal Information Institute (NZLII) database. You should look up the case you wish to cite on NZLII, then refer to the URL of the web page on which the case appears to fill in the information required by the template.

The neutral citation code used by NZLII to identify the court that decided the case or series of law reports. The template currently only handles cases decided by the NZHC, NZCA, and NZSC, or reported by the above series of law reports.

The page or paragraph number at which information or a quotation you are referring to appears. For paragraph numbers, use "[42]" for example, whereas for a page input solely the page number, use "8", for example. When referring to a range of pages or paragraph numbers, separate the starting and ending numbers with an en dash like this: "[43]–[56]".

The date that the case was decided. You may enter the date in any format accepted by the template {{date}}, such as "9 October 1998" or "1998-10-09". It will appear a day-month-year format.

Parallel citations to the case. If there is more than one parallel citation, separate the citations with commas, like this: "[2011] 2 N.Z.L.R. 726, (2011) 25 N.Z.T.C. 20-037".

The court that decided the case. The name of the court can be wikilinked, like this: "[[Supreme Court of New Zealand|Supreme Court]]". To have the template automatically indicate the court and jurisdiction of a case, type "courtname=auto".
