Template:Citation Style documentation/Linking title

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Providing a link for title and chapter
The title of the cited publication can be linked:
• If there is a one-on-one relation between the publication named in the title parameter and an English Wikipedia article, the title can be linked with a Wikilink, e.g.:
• |title=The LiederNet Archive
• |title=Johann Sebastian Bach: His Work and Influence on the Music of Germany
• Alternatively, the Wikilink can be defined separately, without square brackets, with the title-link parameter:
• |title=The LiederNet Archive
|title-link=The LiederNet Archive
• |title=Johann Sebastian Bach: His Work and Influence on the Music of Germany
|title-link=Spitta's Johann Sebastian Bach
• Also deep links are possible:
• |title=Becker Psalter
• |title=Becker Psalter
|title-link=List of compositions by Heinrich Schütz#Becker Psalter
• Likewise, links to sister projects, and other wiki-linkable projects:
• |title=Grundlage einer Ehren-Pforte
• |title=Ueber Johann Sebastian Bachs Leben, Kunst und Kunstwerke
|title-link=wikisource:de:Ueber Johann Sebastian Bachs Leben, Kunst und Kunstwerke
• If there's no meaningful Wikilink, use the url parameter for a WP:EL-conforming external link to a web-page that has the content indicated by the title, giving preference to a web-page that [a] gives clutter-free access to the entire publication indicated by the title; [b] complies to WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT; [c] is most likely to be a stable link for that content; [d] allows more precision for referencing (e.g. with chapter subdivisions, section titles, page numbers). When not all of these criteria can be satisfied, they are to be understood as being given in descending order of importance. E.g.:
• |title=Symphony No. 4, "Tragic", D. 417 – Symphony in C (Grand Duo, D. 812, orch. Joachim)
|url=https://www.chandos.net/chanimages/Booklets/NA3095.pdf
... which is a better link than:
|url=https://www.naxos.com/mainsite/blurbs_reviews.asp?item_code=8.553095&catNum=553095&filetype=About%20this%20Recording&language=English
(while this alternative link does not give the full content, does not mention the author, and has no page numbers)
• Similarly for linking a chapter named in the chapter parameter (combines with chapter-link and chapter-url parameters for, respectively, internal and external links):
• |chapter=Franz Schubert’s letzte Compositionen
|chapter-link=wikisource:de:Seite:Gesammelte Schriften über Musik und Musiker Bd.2 (1854).pdf/234
... this last link is better than:
|chapter-url=https://archive.org/details/SchumannGesammelteSchriften1854B2/page/n233
(a link to a sister project, which transcribes the Gothic script and provides links to topics, is preferable to an external link, also for likely being more stable)
