Template:Aside
Usage
[edit]As wrapper
[edit]For use as a simple wrapper, use {{aside|Your text here}}, which generates:

Your text here

Note that this text currently is displayed as
Your text here
because Phabricator bug 104770 has not yet been resolved, so the tags are inactivated before the wikitext is passed to the user. After this is resolved, this template may have little if any visible impact on the text in many browsers. [1]

As page summary
[edit]This template uses Lua: |
If the named page parameter is specified, there is a much more complex usage under development and is subject to change. This ignores unnamed parameters but depends on:
- page: this is a talk page from which a brief digest is posted when this template is transcluded.
- user: the talk page of whoever started the conversation. This is typically a user but potentially could be a forum such as the Village Pump or an admin board. Basically, the "user" is where you file your complaints.
- position: left, right, or unspecified. A left or right value restricts the width to 250 pixels floating either left or right of the main page text, and makes the text smaller by default. Omitting this leaves the aside at full page width and normal text size by default.
- comments: the number of recent comments to list at the end.
- length: the number of characters to truncate each comment to.
- scale: the text size displayed by the template. Overrides the effect of "position" above. Typically expressed as a percentage value, e.g. 85%.
- order: omit this parameter to display the most recent comments at the bottom, regardless of placement on the page. Give it any value but "new" to simply display the last comments on the page at the bottom of the digest produced by this template.
Current output from {{aside|page=User talk:Wnt/asides/test#Can it handle a heading?|user=User talk:Wnt|position=right}} is at right.
09/19 Wnt: This is a dicey idea
09/23 Wikip.. wild: You mean a bad idea?
10/01 Wnt: Not necessarily...
