Tarita Shankar is an Indian educator and author, who is the chairperson of the Indira Group of Institutes. She is also the founder and Secretary of the Shree Chanakya Education Society.[1]
Education and career
[edit]Tarita is a graduate in arts with additional qualifications in Law. By establishing the Shri Chanakya Education Society (SCES) in 1994, she entered the sphere of the education sector. She founded an independent institution, the Indira Institute of Management Pune,[2] while serving as the Chief Managing Trustee and Founder-Secretary of SCES. In the academic year 2006–07, Indira opened Indira College of Pharmacy, marking its entry into the healthcare industry.[3] She has contributed to a number of philanthropic initiatives, such as the CARE Club, which provides staff, alumni, and students with emotional support, direction, and inspiration. Tarita is also the author of the book, Great Quotes from Great Women.[4]
Honours
[edit]On Women's Day in 2002, Yuva Bharti of the Rotary Club of Poona Airport honoured her contributions at the India Brand Summit in 2002–2003. In 2007, she received the Uddhavshri honour and the Women Super Achievers honour.[5] In recognition of Tarita's contributions to the field of education, Chitkara University in Chandigarh awarded her an honorary doctorate in management. In 2017, Tarita received the Education Entrepreneur Award at the World Leadership Congress Awards held in Mauritius.[6] In September 2024, Tarita Shankar was awarded the Pioneer in the Educational Excellence Award at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore.[7]
