Manipur University (Meitei: Manipur Taibang Maheikol) is a central university located in Imphal, Manipur, India. It was established on 5 June 1980, under the Manipur University Act, 1980 (Manipur Act 8 of 1980), as a teaching cum-affiliating university with territorial jurisdiction over the state of Manipur. It was converted into a central university under the Manipur University Act, 2005[3] w.e.f. 13 October 2005.[4]

Campus

The university is in Canchipur, about 7 km from Imphal, the capital city of the Indian state of Manipur. The campus is spread over 287 acres (1.16 km2) in historic Canchipur, the old palace of the kingdom of Manipur.

Governance

The visitor of the university is the president of India and the chief rector is the Governor of Manipur. As of 2024, the chancellor is Professor T. Tirupati Rao[5] and the vice-chancellor is Professor Naorem Lokendra Singh[6]
