Boundary versus Organizer

[edit]

The article mixes the two different features: the morphological boundary ZLI and the signalling center or organizer. Both characteristics are well defined in developmental biology/neurobiology. Therefore, I suggest to call the structure ZLI if we talk about the anatomical border between prethalamus and thalamus. The signalling part is something different, therefore we introduced a new term: the mid-diencephalic organizer. This organizer is active in early embryonic stages --- when the ZLI as compartment boundary is not detectable yet. Therefore, I will re-write that article in the next days/weeks. -Stef
