The city of Rio de Janeiro has a page for the Subprefeitura do Centro e Centro here: [1], but it's for administrative purposes and has a different listing than the Wiki article, although generally the same area.

Via a Google Books search in the Rough Guide to Rio or Lonely Planet Rio, one does not encounter the term Central Zone or Central Region.

In Rio if someone is in the Zona Sul for instance, they'll refer to going to o Centro if the location is somewhere in the downtown business district or a historic museum or a restaurant, or picking up a bus to head to the Zona Norte.. but if they are going to Santa Teresa then they will just state Santa Teresa and not reference Centro.
