The Etruscans begin to speak: translated from the French by Patrick Evans; Simon & Schuster, New York, 1962.

Original French version: Les Étrusques commencent à parler; Paris; Arthaud; 1961.

Don't know if he was a linguist. Alexander 007 23:02, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

(1899 - )? Does this need updating, or has Mayani been alive up until recently? Copey 2 00:58, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ther isnt a single source wich dissmises the theory of albanian etruscan connectionTrojani 06:49, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is a single source which supports that theory...! --Macrakis 10:59, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What source did you find that Enver Hoxha supported Mayanis theory? stay on topic and do not bring Hoxha into the debateTrojani 13:54, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Greek PHD, "people are not definitely known, but data drawn from history and from linguistic, archaeological, and anthropological studies have led to the conclusion that Albanians are the direct descendants of the ancient Illyrians and that the latter were natives of the lands they inhabited"http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-42640/Albania Hre are over 27 sources wich reffer to Alexander the Great as part Albanian(Illyrian)http://alexanderthegreat.wordpress.com/.Trojani 14:03, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Albanian Pelasgian connection is supported by this, among many others, French author Robert D´Angeley, se his work on Albanians and Pelasgians;

Notability

[edit]

This is a coatrack article discussing Albanian nationalism or the Origin of the Albanians, not M. Mayani. No notability for the biographical article is established. Cite Mayani at the relevant articles on Etruscan or Albanian history. dab (𒁳) 16:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been saying for a while that Mayani should be cited in the article on Etruscan language - for some reason, people are less willing to include him than Alinei, who seems to have an even weaker case <duck brickbats>. That said, if Mayani is not notable, why is Alinei? And Bonfante? Because they wrote more books...? Let's have some consistency! Jpaulm (talk) 15:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alinei was (apparently) tenured at Utrecht, Bonfante at Turin, and they thus pass WP:PROF. dab (𒁳) 18:27, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for info about Alinei and Bonfante! The redirect is interesting, but I looked in vain in Origin_of_the_Albanians for mention of Mayani or the Etruscans! Even a remark saying something like "Mayani believed...". Jpaulm (talk) 18:54, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

Thanks for notifying me of the proposed deletion of Zacharia Mayani. Though he was clearly far outside the scholarly consensus, I think he's notable enough to include -- he's had books published by mainstream publishers, and occasionally gets mentioned. He is also almost certainly not a Living Person. He was born in 1899, so would be 110 years old now. The most recent publication activity I've seen by him is from the 1970's, I think. I looked but could not find an obituary. --Macrakis (talk) 22:08, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I beefed up some of the references, but the article is still quite small. I see you are self-described as "fr-4" and "French (fluent)" — I do not read or write the French language, but maybe there is better information in that language for an encyclopedia article about the subject in the Wikipedia for that language.   — Jeff G.  ツ 22:15, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I copied the above from User talk:Jeff G.#Mayani. I proposed deletion of Zecharia Mayani with reason "Orphaned BLP has insufficient visible verifiable references from reliable sources to establish notability; redirect Zacharie Mayani should also be deleted" before the first post above.   — Jeff G.  ツ 22:24, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

non-fiction?

[edit]

Is it correct to call Mayani a non-fiction writer? His book on the Etruscans is total bollocks. Bofoc Tagar (talk) 11:33, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
