Was really Zatouna inhabited by Slavs in 18 century? --213.151.217.134 (talk) 00:18, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology of Zatouna

[edit]

The name Zatouna is slavic and means "place that sinks into the water", from the slavic compound verb za-tonuti = "sink into the water":

za: http://translate.google.com/#sr/en/za

tonuti: http://translate.google.com/#sr/en/tonuti

hence zaton = "lake,gulf" in Serbo-croatian: http://translate.google.com/#sr/en/zaton

And the Serbo-croatian toponyms Zaton, Zatonje and Zatonie in Poland:
