Zağanos and Seljuks???

[edit]

It is claimed that Zaganos was coming from a respected and old family, who served the Seljuk and Ottoman Sultans many years. Any reliable source ? I find this claim to be highly doubtful. Maybe the family served Ottoman sultans who had already been conquering Balkan territory. But Seljuks were never been to Balkans and it is very difficult to visualise Albanians working for Seljuks. He was conscripted through the devsirme, so his family couldn't have served the Ottoman Empire or the Seljuks.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 11:15, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In a number of serious sources one can read that Zaganos Pasha is a Greek. Some of the sources give enough details of that fact too. I shall add only that the ending of the name (-OS) is definitely Greek. There are no Albanian names ending on -OS, and it is highly unbelievable that the person obtained the -OS after he accepted Islam. That was the name he had from before. Please, use Google to see many serious works telling us about the Greek nationality of Zaganos Pasha. There are many, but you may wish to see a book written by the Cambridge professor Roger Crowley: Constantinople, The Last Great Siege 1453. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.10.61.53 (talk) 01:37, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Zagan Pasha" 117, "Zaganos Pasha" 158. Move to Zaganos Pasha.--Zoupan 17:08, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No ghA in Zagnos as per local pronunciation in Balikesir

[edit]

Plus Chaghanos (crab in gk) is a closer sound. The real issue is: After unduely strong 'Albanian' assertation, the article goes into 'also mentioned' mode for stronger arguments. 2601:18A:C780:1360:5925:D99C:8E69:2ED2 (talk) 23:22, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Tildeman[reply]
