Redir vs. disambig issues
[edit]Hi, Vicarious! Thanks for trying to clean this up! If it weren't for you, it might have taken me a while to notice that the urban-type settlement in Vladimir Oblast no longer exists.
I do want to let you know something about these disambiguation pages, though. 99% of similar disambiguation pages dealing with Russia were created by me, and they are a part of the workflow for a much, much larger project for ordering, disambiguating, and properly interlinking articles/stubs/red links on Russian geographic locations. The project is indeed huge—there are over a thousand cities/towns, over a thousand districts, several hundred urban-type settlements, and literally tens of thousands rural localities, and that's without thousands of rivers, mountains, railway stations, etc., etc.! Naturally, disambiguation pages of just two entries are bound to pop up here and there every now and then. Of course, the right way is to create two articles and interlink them with dablinks, but that, unfortunately, is not the best way to go. As my scope is currently limited pretty much to just inhabited localities, I am purposfully ignoring any other entities which may be included into these disambiguation pages. The point is that either someone else who cares about them will include them, or I will include them myself when most of the work with inhabited localities is completed. Obviously, to add a third entry to a disambiguation page with existing two is a lot easier than having to dismantle pre-existing mutual dablinks and installing a newly created disambiguation page. It may not sound like a lot of work if you have to do it once or twice, but multiply this by the scope of the project, and you'll see why having a dab page for just two entries makes perfect sense. See it as an application of WP:IAR, if you wish :)
Anyway, just to give you a peace of mind, I added a third entry to this particular dab. If in future you find a similar dab page dealing with Russia that makes you uneasy, you can just point me to it, and I'll do whatever is necessary to keep it.
Thanks again for your help! Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 13:02, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
