Yuly Kim as dissident

[edit]

So far this entry says nothing specific about Kim's activities as a dissident.

Yet he was involved with one of the most significant dissident enterprises of the 1960s-1980s, the Chronicle of Current Events. That should be added here.

Question

[edit]

Why on the Earth the ethnicity of his mother is so important in context of this page [1] ? My very best wishes (talk) 16:39, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Because... it deals with Kim's biography? Because he mentions it in the interview himself? Because his father's ethnicity is mentioned on the page as well? Why on Earth shouldn't it be mentioned, especially when properly referenced? AveTory (talk) 16:48, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is not an answer. The significance of anything should be established by sources. Here is source currently cited on the page in this regard. This is an interview (a primary source), but it can be used with care. He tells that he did not like antisemites from his childhood because this is something his Russian mother taught him. If you would like to include that, it might be something reasonable, but I am not sure if this is really due on the page. Note: this is yet another BLP page you are not editing properly. My very best wishes (talk) 17:00, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I should search for secondary sources to prove that his mother was Russian while he mentions it in an interview himself?))) If you give me a link to the Wikipedia rule that requires it, I might search for a secondary source. But I doubt it, as I'm well aware how Wikipedia articles are written. AveTory (talk) 17:14, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am saying that if you want to include something on a BLP page, the significance of that something should be either obvious or be established by sources. For example what she was a teacher of Russian language and literature is obviously relevant given his own profession, but the significance of her ethnicity is not obvious and therefore should be established by sources. The source must tell why this is so important for biography to be included. My very best wishes (talk) 17:29, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The signicance of ethnicity doesn't need to be proved. It's one of the basic points included in infoboxes and categories sections. I broadened the section with additional information and links. AveTory (talk) 18:42, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, unlike the country of origin, the ethnicity should not be automatically included. However, you provided more context and an additional ref right now, so it looks better now. Thanks, My very best wishes (talk) 19:53, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
After checking this once again, I decided to remove one word, because it does sound ridiculous in context (she taught Russian language and literature and she ... was "Russian" herself). Please compare with version on ruwiki. It does everything correctly. My very best wishes (talk) 16:55, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You were simply WP:HOUNDING following my report of your editwarring which is vandalism by Wikipedia rules. Now you are trying to ignite another edit war. Everything was discussed before, the significance of his mother's ancestry is supported by multiple links. And other language Wikipedia pages are not used as references in Wikipedia. AveTory (talk) 12:01, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So, what is exactly the significance of his mother's ethnicity? Please explain. My very best wishes (talk) 18:42, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you can't explain, you should not revert. My very best wishes (talk) 03:05, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
