Hi, Change denunciation and characterization as misguided by leading Orthodox Jewish authorities. to has led to much debate amongst the wider Jewish community. The quote in the intro of Rabbi Mizrachi being denunciation by prominent orthodox Rabbis does not come from a source of prominent Rabbis but rather from a secular newspaper and someone who Rabbi Mizrachi openly speaks out against as being a false Rabbi. Therefore I think this is not honest writing since the generalized quote is most likely biased. Like saying Trump is dennunciated by prominent right wing politicians and quoting Biden. 5.102.231.147 (talk) 09:22, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Shadow311 (talk) 17:12, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, article already contains sourcing showing support from general public and several leading Israeli rabbis. The rabbis sourced are controversial themselves Boteach mainly for the books "Kosher Jesus" and "Kosher Sex", Slifkiln for his books on Judaism and evolution, while Mirvis and Dweck for supporting same-sex marriage which people have a perogative to support but all four contradict Orthodox Judaism. There was a lot of criticism for a statement about the Holocaust but it was only a criticism of the statement and no ban suggested on the person themselves. The debate garnered by his traditional posturing against intermarriage, old school teachings about reward and punishment, and conventional opposition to gay marriage is definetly a topic of debate in the greater community and upsetting for some but not the majority of Orthodox rabbis.SaintGerbilUK (talk) 06:48, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Shadow311 is correct. The current wording is supported by the sources provided, while the proposed change is not. Mizrachi's ideas are not being "debated" — they are being denounced and condemned. Your contention that "the majority of Orthodox rabbis" are in agreement with his statements is original research and needs a reliable source. Havradim leaf a message 11:50, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish News Reliability

[edit]

Restoring. @Samuelshraga What are grounds for excluding Jewish Press? There is no current listing on RS Perennial Sources stating otherwise. Silverhumvey (talk) 22:13, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I searched in Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard and found discussions stating it wasn't a reliable source. In an ideal world, it would be worth opening a discussion there to specifically question this topic and the discussion would focus only on editorial practices and historical accuracy of JP reporting. In that discussion, I currently have no position - I would need to do some research. However, given the way these discussions actually happen on Wikipedia, the editorial line of the JP and the fact that Meir Kahane amongst others have been contributors, I would assess the chances of it being found generally reliable to be approaching 0.
Feel free to try though. When I have time (Friday at the latest) I will find the discussions in RS/N that mention Jewish Press, and if they are as I recall I think you should revert your restoration pending any farther discussions of JP at RS/N. Samuelshraga (talk) 05:54, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I withdraw the comment - I did see assertions that the Jewish Press is not reliable, but only two by single editors as sort of asides, and in other places it is used. Hopefully someone who knows the outlet well can do some due diligence on its reliability at some point. Samuelshraga (talk) 19:24, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
