Notable

[edit]

I think this qualifies as Notable - the label has international distribution and works with many large independent label musicians. It's every bit as notable as any other small label, and I think it should stay. I'm removing the 'Notablility' tag - what do you guys think needs to be added?

Hey Folajimi - I'm not really clear on why you're so intent on having this entry deleted. I didn't create this page, but I have worked on trying to keep it up a bit, and I can't figure out it's lack of notability, at least on a comparative level - there's tons of record label pages on here that are way less documented, not active, and operating on a much smaller scale. You should have allowed for combining the artist pages with this entry before just deleting them, if you were looking to cull the total number of involved pages. Here's a tiny sampling of some smaller, less notable (or equivalently notable) labels on wikipedia: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Altarus_Records , http://www.aztecarecords.com/ , http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/The_Amazing_Kornyfone_Record_Label , http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Drown_Megan_Records ,

and this one?: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/2blossoms

According to the notability guidelines I added - and intended to continue to add to - online published works, and print magazine references to the label. I realize that Wikipedia's function is not to list every single record label on earth, but this a label working with relatively major artists for the genre (Damien Jurado, Hayden at least have decently extensive Wiki entries) and is of value to wikipedia's readers as long as those artists are on here. Obviously this label is not as notable as Thomas Jefferson or something, but compared to the large majority of record label pages on here, it's significantly more relevant, and I think a quick google search for the artists that were deleted and for the label will reveal hundreds of pages of reviews, shows, and discussions and sources that support an argument for notability. The Notability: Music page doesn't really detail the standards for listing record labels at all, but if you were to apply artist criteria #4 to a label, then Yer Bird is a valid entry

"Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)."

I'd certainly consider Fargo a major indie, and they released J. Tillman's last record, and his next record is coming out on Yer Bird and Hayden has been releasing on big indies for over a decade (Outpost, Badman) and he's doing some exclusive recording for Yer Bird, and Yer Bird has worked with Matthew Ryan who released 2 records on major label giant A&M. If it's just a matter of getting some of that fleshed out more on the main article, then fine - I merged the info from the deleted artist pages and tried to include more links to other articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.207.81.106 (talkcontribs) 21:31, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The initial {{notability}} tag was applied out of courtesy; it is usually reserved for articles with topics of unclear importance. By taking down the tag without addressing the concerns surrounding its application, you accepted the risk of having said articles given the deep-six without redress. Were I to have been acting out of malice, I would have sent the articles in question to WP:AFD, making this entire discussion moot. The onus is on the initial contributor or – would-be editor – to ensure that an article contains information whose notability can be readily verified. Folajimi 02:51, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Avoid using red herrings to argue your case; employing them makes you look desperate. in this case already diminishes your argument. For all I know, you could be a shill for the record label. Taking it personally (and ascribing malevolent motives to my actions) does little to help your cause.
'Tis rather interesting that you mentioned Thomas Jefferson, whom the following quote is attributed to:
“Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government.”
You might want to take the time to acquaint yourself with the notability guidelines to keep such unfortunate occurences from being repeated in the future. --Cheers, Folajimi (leave a note) 02:57, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Policy discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a policy discussion in progress at the Manual of Style which affects this page, suggesting that the capitalization of "like" in the band mentioned on this page should be removed. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. — LlywelynII 12:50, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
