Synonymy

[edit]

It appears that the older Genus names include

  • Gymnoris Hodgson, 1844.
  • Gymnornis, G. R. Gray 1855.
  • Gymnorhis, Agass. (lapsus)
  • Xanthodira, Sundevall. 1850.
  • Xanthodina, Bp. 1850.

Reliable sources for taxonomy include the Nomenclator Zoologicus and the Richmond Index and Gymornis is not in these. Shyamal (talk) 02:05, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The Collins Bird Guide has Gymornis – but on closer inspection I think that must be a typo. Gymn (naked) + ornis (bird) would look the most likely, assuming it is derived from Greek - but Gymnoris certainly seems to have precedence on its side (and far more Google hits!).
