Yannis GrivasIoannis Grivas – In Greek language use, politicians are (or at least were, until a few years ago) rarely known with colloquial forms of their names like "Yannis", unless they themselves favour this usage (like Costas Simitis or Yiannos Papantoniou). Grivas, being a somewhat older-generation gentleman and a supreme court judge to boot, certainly never ever used "Giannis" in an official capacity, regardless of what the Schenectady Gazette, referenced in this article, seems to think on the matter. To wit, "Yannis Grivas" in Greek brings up athletes, coaches and a number of Facebook profiles first, while "Ioannis Grivas" brings almost only bios or references to the cabinet of this article's subject.
