Jimena or Ximena?

[edit]

ELLA ES JIMENA NAVARRETE MAS NO XIMENA NAVARRETE —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.165.150.154 (talk) 05:46, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In most sources her name appears as "Jimena", but herself writes "Ximena" in her Twitter account. --El Mexicano (talk) 15:36, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Which needs to be cited as a reference (along with any stronger supporting material available) in the article itself; otherwise it remains what it was when previously reverted – "unsourced".
My guess – obviously completely unsupported by sources – is that she has decided to use "Jimena" professionally, especially now that she is entering an international competition and may become more widely known outside her home country. If I recall correctly, the two are pronounced the same in Spanish; in English, people would be constantly stumbling over "Ximena", saying zee-may-nah, kzye-may-nah, etc. rather than hee-may-nah. (Even if my memory of pronunciations is wrong, the point is demonstrated.)
The "or" within the presentation of the name seems distracting, though. The articles on Madonna, John Wayne, and Arianne Zucker, e.g., contain examples of alternate ways of handling the two versions of the name. Fat&Happy (talk) 18:27, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I added the source. Did you think this way? Regards, --El Mexicano (talk) 18:42, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lastest info: I asked her in Twitter, she said, she is officially Jimena in her identity document, but she likes writing it with X-. --El Mexicano (talk) 20:49, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed title change to Ximena Navarrete in line with official Miss Universe website

[edit]

Now that the Miss Universe website is officially calling her Ximena throughout I think it's time to move the article to Ximena Navarrete with a redirect from Jimena to Ximena. It's tricky because Jimena does seem to be the more common usage, but seeing as she is most notable for winning Miss Universe I think it's sensible to go with their official spelling of her name. Nowhere in the article is this sourced, for it to remain in the article it most definitely needs a direct reference. --- PageantUpdater (talk) 06:40, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
