Less wear? Really? Why? Better explanation needed...
[edit]Interesting concept, but why should it have better wear characteristics than a standard herringbone? Herringbone gears need to be used such that all but one of the gears in a meshed geartrain have end float on their shafts, so that the load on left and right sloping teeth are equal, and I don't see how you can do any better than that. Maybe if the tooth profile is not perfectly involute, the Wuest type will have any residual angular velocity errors at twice the frequency and half the amplitude of a standard herringbone, but there will be a residual alternating axial component too.
I feel that someone competent in the field needs to write a proper explanation before we can take it too seriously. Hopefully soon.
