Iron Girl
[edit]I'm mostly posting this here for future reference should an article be created for Iron Girl down the line. Some info that may be helpful for such an article, particularly its history can be found here. BarkeepChat/$ 20:05, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
MAGGIE award
[edit]Barkeep: Hello. Currently there are no third party sources acknowledging that this magazine won this award. The two sources are the magazine itself, and a listing of all winners that year at the Western Publishing Association's website. Since there is no article for Western Publishing Association or Maggie Award or similar that I could find, this is not all that informative, as it give no context or indication of greater significance. If the award is indeed well regarded, that should be supportable with independent sources. Without those sources I don't think this belongs. Grayfell (talk) 19:05, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
- A few points. First, there are no 3rd party sources to back up the specific claim of WTC/LAVA receiving the award, but under WP:SELFSOURCE using WPA as the reference to receiving this award should satisfy doubts that they received an award; WPA did issue the award after all. Second, my feelings on the award's notability, based on what I can research, is that the award itself is significant enough that numerous publications recognize and tout their receiving of the award and will go as far as issuing press releases through various newswire services about receiving recognition. Excluding WPA self-published material I get over a 1,000 search result hits on the topic. With that said I see no valid reason to exclude a two sentence mention of the award in this article. I do believe a Maggie Award article itself would be a struggle to pass Wikipedia standards because of the lack of a concrete 3rd party source, but that's not whats being done here in the article. If you still disagree with its inclusion in the article perhaps we can seek out a neutral party to give an opinion. Thanks. BarkeepChat/$ 14:38, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- That the award is mentioned by press releases and very little else strongly suggests this is being used for promotion, but the award's informational value has not been clearly demonstrated. This isn't the Razzies, so it's obvious that those who have received it want to brag about it. Since we do not give the reader any way to learn more about the award or the organization that grants it, mentioning it in the article looks impressive but doesn't really say anything. That's why so many groups have issued press releases about it, but press releases get issued all the time about stuff that doesn't belong in Wikipedia. I agree that the Maggie Awards are unlikely to meet notability guidelines, but what about the Western Publishing Association? If that is also non-notable, than I still feel that this doesn't belong in the article at all without substantial independent coverage explaining why it's meaningful. - Since there have been no additional comments, I have again removed the info. If you would like to restore it, I'm open to suggestions as to where to seek additional input. Grayfell (talk) 07:01, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
