[edit]There's a point about "Work hard, play hard" being an informal motto of some US Air Force (USAF) organizations and it was commented out by another user. I didn't remove the commenting-out because it seems the originally referenced article no longer exists (?) but I did find a related one at:

"Work hard, play hard" -- it's a phrase we've all heard and many Air Force organizations use it as an informal motto.
However, the article also makes it clear that the USAF is trying to discourage or change that informal motto, because of the concern that it encourages reckless behavior. See the full article for details.
I didn't uncomment the comments around that point (or change the reference) because I can see how mentioning it might reinforce the motto and that might lead to more reckless behavior.
A proper handling of that point (about it being an informal motto in some USAF orgs) would give the history of that usage, would explain why some people see it as being a problem, and would describe what has been done to retire or change it.
