Move to Wood-Ljungdahl pathway?
[edit]At least within the biochem community that I inhabit, the term Wood-Ljungdahl pathway is common. I dont hear people use the cumbersome term "Reductive acetyl-CoA pathway." Please leave objections or suggestions here, otherwise I will make the move in a few days. Reductive acetyl-CoA pathway would become a redirect. --Smokefoot (talk) 22:39, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Edit re:acetogens
[edit]Hi all, I'm very new to the Wikipedia editing community, so I thought I'd make a talk section instead of just diving into edits to the page. I suggest the first line of the page be changed to read: "The Wood–Ljungdahl pathway is a set of biochemical reactions used by some bacteria and archaea called acetogens and methanogens, respectively." The Wood-Ljungdahl pathway can be found in both bacteria and archaea, and can effect the synthesis of either acetate or methane. However, no known bacteria can carry out methanogenesis, and likewise no known archaea carry out acetogenesis.
The line "The pathway occurs in bacteria and archaea, e.g. methanogens[4] and in acetate-producing bacteria such as Clostridium." is closer to the mark, but is likewise misleading in its insinuation that some bacteria are methanogens.
See Fuchs, 2011 and Borrel et al., 2016 as starting points for further information.
I'm happy to make the changes myself, but don't want to step on any toes in the process. I'll keep tabs on this page for a week or so to watch for comments and then make the edits. Thanks! - Well that has got to be one of the more graceful notices on Wiki that I have seen. I recommend that you make the edits you recommend.
- We just dont have many editors into microbial metabolism or biosynthesis. --Smokefoot (talk) 00:56, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! Will do! --153.90.19.194 (talk) 17:42, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
