This statement is a misreading of the text in the source article
[edit]- "stated that most elderly women in Russian-occupied cities "were executed after being raped or took their own lives."[55]
If such a shocking, widescale crime actually happened I think we'd all have heard about it! A careful reading of what the Ukrainian MPs said indicates that the line should read:
- stated that most of the elderly women who had been raped and killed in these Russian-occupied cities "were executed after being raped or took their own lives."

Removing and condensing
[edit]@NHCLS: could you please explain why you removed a 'not really necessary' paragraph in the "LGBTQ women" section, and "condensed a bit" in the "Impact on female reproductive health" section? If the reason is that some of the material is referring to things that happened before 24 February 2022 (e.g "In the three years prior to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine had adopted new legislation and institutional frameworks relating to sex and gender-based violence"), one could argue that they are beyond the scope of this article. But plenty of other things in this article talk about the pre-war situation and developments to give people an idea of how things were when the invasion began. If we decide that such information is out of this article's scope, we could still use it in the Women in the war in Donbas article, for example (so the content doesn't have to be deleted, it can just be moved to a more relevant place). But you also just sent me a thank you note for this edit, which relates to pre-war events in Russia from 2008 to 2020, which is arguably even less relevant to the 2022 invasion than the example above that you have removed. Moreover, your "condensing" edit seems WP:UCR. What is your logic here? Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 15:58, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
- An entire paragraph explaining all the details of the Ukrainian mobilisation law, including details like exemptions for some parents/caregivers and different types of students, doesn't really add any information that's really relevant to a sub-section on how the war has affected LGBT+ women. And especially when the paragraph is relatively long, instead of providing context that is necessary to understand the sub-section, it ends up drowning out the main points of the sub-section - it makes it harder to see the forest for the trees, so to speak. The list of exemptions to the mobilisation law is useful information in general, and can definitely go on a page about the mobilisation (like Mobilization in Ukraine), but it's not that useful in this particular sub-section. There's other information, however, that I didn't delete (e.g "In the three years prior to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine had adopted new legislation and institutional frameworks relating to sex and gender-based violence") because it's more directly relevant. - Hmmm wait, I seem to have misread some changes. The "three years prior" sentence is indeed still there. Sorry. I'm gonna re-read the changes carefully and then re-read your explanation. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 16:58, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
- On review, I think your edits were fully justified. The paragraphs you removed were far too detailed or just irrelevant, and the mobilisation bit was possibly even a copyvio. I reused the source for it in Mobilization in Ukraine#2022 to say: 'all male Ukrainian citizens aged 18 to 60 were prohibited from travelling abroad, unless they could provide documents that they fulfilled specified conditions for exemption.' That's all Wikipedia needs to say about it, really. Especially in an article that is supposedly about women, we don't need to give that much attention to mobilisation exemptions for men. Thank you for your explanation! I hadn't read the changes carefully and was confused. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 17:34, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
