Chronology
[edit]The opening sentence says ".. that began development in 1769" - but that's about the only date we get, until his death in 1804. There is some excellent material in this article, apparently supported by good sources. But it's lacking any detailed dates. I wonder do any of the sources provide these? Thanks. "The Turk" infamous ?
[edit]While it is certainly a historic fact that that machine was (and even is) famous I'm not sure at all that it is correct style to make a totally subjective moral judgement and call the thing "infamous". It might have been a "hoax" but it certainly was elaborate and successfull, providing entertainment over almost a century, etc. Also note that the Wikipedia main article about "The Turk" does not reproduce that judgement. I vote to get rid of that negative attribute. If nothing else "The Turk" today teaches kids not to believe everything they see but to check it against known fact.
