[edit]The song was credited to David Seville. The idea for the Chipmunks characters did not come until after this song became a hit.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.119.174.170 (talk) 18:52, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
No mention of the Muppets Show skit? I'd like to know about that, it's a fond memory from childhood.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.86.206.192 (talk) 05:25, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Lyrics
[edit]Should I add lyrics to the song and an external link to Albinoblacksheep, or leave it as is? --Įиʛ§øç βїʛβяøтњєя Rant | Contributions 06:41, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

one missing from "cover versions"
[edit]A while back Jerry Springer had a radio show, during one of the shows he played a parody of "Witch Doctor" (might have been called "Spin Doctor"). It made fun of then current president George W. Bush saying he had a spin doctor who told him what to say. I know it exists because I managed to get the second half of the song on a cassette but I can't seem to find it to reference it here. If someone knows what I am talking about and they know the name of the song even if it can't be added here it would be nice to be able to find it tell me at my discussion page. Sped up?
[edit]The article has this:
- The voice of the "witch doctor" was in fact Bagdasarian's own voice sped up to double speed
When I listen to it, the voice of the witch doctor is low, and effect I would expect if someone's voice was slowed. Speeding up a recording of a voice makes it sound higher. SlowJog (talk) 04:31, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
- The guy singing the majority of the song, in normal voice at regular speed, is Seville/Bagdasarian as the character asking for advice from the witch doctor. The witch doctor has only one line, repeated several times: the oo ee oo ah ah part, and that is also Bagdasarian singing (slowly) with the tape speed increased during overdubbing to raise the pitch on the final recording. Ronster76 (talk) 17:40, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- Then that should be mentioned in the article. It's confusing to people who have heard the song with the witch doctor having a low voice to read the voice was sped up. Or maybe I didn't hear the original? SlowJog (talk) 02:14, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- This is the original version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmjrTcYMqBM—Preceding unsigned comment added by Koro Neil (talk • contribs) 23:00, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Swahili?
[edit]I recently had the chorus posted in a comment on Facebook in the form Ooh eeh ooh haa haa ting tang walla walla bing bang. Facebook's translation function identified the language as Swahili, and rendered it as Oh, oh, oh, oh, I will love you. Google Translate doesn't recognise the phrase as Swahili or translate it. Can anyone confirm or refute the translation? Is there any evidence that Bagdasarian took the phrase from Swahili? Or has someone been monkeying with Facebook's translation service? Grease - We Go Together
[edit]Added a reference to this is under Other Versions, got removed as poorly referenced - not too bothered about it but just wondered why, as the link contained the song credits which stated the interpolation of this song. 82.20.26.110 (talk) 19:29, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hello IP! The source you referenced, Genius, is considered unreliable as it's generally usergenerated. See WP:GENIUS for more info. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:38, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for clarifying. 82.20.26.110 (talk) 16:42, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
SiIvaGunner mix
[edit]SiIvaGunner's "high quality rip" of the Athletic theme from Super Mario World remixes and parodies Witch Doctor. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEcOzjg7vBU) This "rip" is their most well-known song Is this notable enough to be included in the article? Evrstz (talk) 04:35, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
