History
[edit]I came across this page whilst doing some spell-checking; I've commented out the last two paragraphs of the "History" section, as they appear to be vandalism. I'm certainly no expert, but they don't really seem to make a lot of sense. Seems rather in need of some expertise from someone more knowing of Winterbourne than I. Looks like it was some general vandalism aimed at residents of another Winterbourne, so it wasn't even relevant to this article in any way. I would love to update the page, but there's really not that much information out there. Winterbourne is a tiny little town. The only reason it has a school is because the local school board used to operate them in rural locations. A lot of these were sold, which is why the Foundation Christian School exists.
Googling around, I can't find much other than stuff written by a local religious nutter. There are a number of old houses, including the house that belonged to the founder, as well as a church and a couple of cemeteries. Here is a page with a photo of the gates of the main one, and some burial notes. The Christian school has a web site here.
More stuff: Just outside the town, there is a major meeting house for old order Mennonites in the area. This page has some details. Also, there is a steel frame bridge over the Grand River just behind the town, detailed here.
I'd be happy to upload photos of any of these things, though I'm not sure whether they're noteworthy enough to include in the article. Little towns often don't have much more than stubs.

New photo of brush, water, rocks and logs
[edit]
Last summer, User:JFVoll took this photo of brush, water, rocks and logs, from a bridge in Winterbourne. The photo shows nothing of Winterbourne (the title of this article), and an effort to remove the photo--per MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE--was reverted. The input of others would be appreciated. - Have you even stepped foot in Winterborne? JFVoll (talk) 15:48, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'm afraid people who haven't stepped foot in Winterborne aren't going to learn anything about it from this photo. It may be an accurate representation of the creek, but the creek is not the article subject, and is largely undistinguishable from how any other waterway in the world looks. A picture of the bridge and dam it was taken from would be better. Or a wider shot putting the creek in context. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 15:55, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- The dam is under the bridge. You could argue any waterway photo is unusable since despite taking a photo in the village because apparent photos within a village don't actually count as photos in a village.
- This is why I hate adding anything to Wikipedia itself, some poweruser will nitpick any picture. JFVoll (talk) 16:13, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- JFVoll, to answer your question, yes, I have stepped foot in Winterbourne...when I took the photo in the infobox. I recall looking over the bridge at the time--camera in hand--and quickly realizing a photo of water and brush would add little to an article about a community. - That photo of the of the sign is not very useful either, if we're going to nitpick. JFVoll (talk) 16:22, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- No, it's not great. But it is distinctive. To be honest, neither photo does much for the place. But I guess there's not much photogenic about a small village in Ontario. Picture of the high street? School? The Chalmers Presbyterian Church seems to be of note. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 18:16, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
