I found this article about Winifred Smith to be very informative and I also liked how it is broken down. Some things to work on would probably be the following: under the "The first forty years" there is mention about Smith studying botany at University College but it doesn't say which unless this was the only name for it, it should be changed to the actual name which I'm guessing is University College London, the name for this subtitle might be considered to be changed to "First forty years", to make the article more informative their could be a description of what a BSc is because not everyone might know what it is, and lastly there is a good description of how she was a a tutor and leader to other women in the science field but there is no background on why she wanted to or why this was so important to her which there could be an extra section on background info about her time period and what women were not able to do and were able to do and what she helped improve for women. Overall though I enjoyed this article and saw no issues with grammar.

I also found the Smith article to be informative. Even in this early stage, it is already beginning to cover diverse topics about Smith's life. I second the idea that the headings might need to be altered to fit the content more concisely. I suggest "Early Career," and "Tutorship," or something along those lines. 'The first forty years' could probably be broken into "Early Life," "Education," etc. if enough information can be found concerning Smith. I noticed several of matters Garciag pointed out as I was reading. Specfically, that a hyperlink to what BSc would be helpful for future readers. I think the images are nice in contextualizing Smith's life and career. Perhaps an image can be found of Smith herself as well. I though the last sentence in the first section provided a lot great information, but could be restructured to exclude the colon. Perhaps "In the late 1870's, Smith's family underwent several extensive changes, including..." Other than that I didn't notice any other grammar issues. I thought the overall tone supported a non-partisan perspective and it was encyclopedic. This is a great start and with a few more inclusions will really begin to take shape. Good luck with future editing! --TylerDC25 (talk) 22:10, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I also agree that the headings could be changed or shortened. I think that the incorporation of images into your article provides a way for readers to imagine and tie in the information as they are reading. Overall, I think the article presents information on her life, school, and career in a clear and concise tone. The article reads encyclopedic and does not seem to have a biased perspective. Good luck! Pham8713 (talk) 02:28, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Responding to suggestions above

[edit]

Hi. It's great to see new editors getting involved here. I'm worried that you may find this a frustrating article to work on. There aren't many resources for finding out about Winifred Smith so your good suggestions about exploring her motivations, finding a portrait etc. are probably going to hit a dead end. The article has been given the label "start class" but unfortunately that doesn't always mean there's scope to develop it much. Linking BSc is a good idea, I agree, but you may not find many other things to work on, unless you want to explain her botanical research in more detail. By the way, the main reason I did the headings like that was that Smith's life didn't seem to match up with the more usual headings, but see what you can come up with!
