"Nothing has been shown of Rawls's personal life, with one exception: he appeared, out of uniform, in the background in a scene which took place in a gay bar."
I don't think that's entirely accurate; in the first season, there are several shots in his office where a picture is clearly visible of him and a woman and a child (or children), including one moment where he picks up the picture and says something admiring them.
Not to say he can't be a homosexual, just debating the "Nothing with one exception" bit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.123.131.5 (talk) 06:20, 28 December 2006
- I agree, and it has been fixed. I just re-watched the pilot last night, and in the scene where he gives McNulty the double-flipoff, he is clearly wearing a wedding ring. Ellsworth 20:39, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
is he inspired by the philosopher john rawls? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.243.253.111 (talk) 18:24, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Closet homosexual?
[edit]for reference, he is seen in the gay bar having a drink at the end of the bar in season 3, episode 10, 41 minutes and 50 seconds into the show (S03E10 41:50). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.65.163.213 (talk) 13:39, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Just adding do the brief discussion above. I removed the following from the first paragraph: "but it has been strongly implied that he is a closet homosexual", not because this is a living person who'd be offended or that homosexuality is offensive in the first place, but simply because I think it's plain wrong. I've seen every episode of the show recently, and I never picked up any "strong implications" of this supposed closet homosexuality, nor any weak such. Can someone please point to the episode(s) in which this is strongly implied (or implied at all)? If not, I suggest it be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kvaks (talk • contribs) 23:11, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- There's a scene with Rawls at a gay bar while Lamar was looking for Omar, and another scene where Landsman chuckles knowingly at graffiti that says "Rawls sucks cock"... I'll see if I can dig up a newspaper source for this or something. east.718 at 23:35, 11/13/2007
- You're right, he was at the gay bar. That's funny. Sorry for messing up. --Kvaks (talk) 14:04, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- More importantly, is this such a major factor in Rawls' roles in the show to have it as one of the three summary sentences? I think it would better fit somewhere in the body of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.15.180.38 (talk) 03:31, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
I agree SineBot. But it was just so shocking and funny coming from someone who appears incredibly straight, that that's what people think of more than his distinctive policing side. I think Burns and Rawls had a chuckle over that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.232.66.242 (talk) 19:11, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- Very late to this discussion, but this is obviously WP:OR without a source discussing it and I am gong to remove it fromt the article. Beeblebrox (talk) 09:46, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
