Ballots for speaker

[edit]

Per this page it took 133 ballots to elect him speaker. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 18:57, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If I have my facts right, the House Speaker contest that required 133 ballots was not the 1859 contest, but rather the 1855 contest. I am informed (by another internet site) that in 1859 it took "only" 44 ballots.

Also, the dates appear to be wrong on the period in which Pennington was Speaker and in Congress. I believe Pennington was first elected to the US House in November 1858 and served only a single term (Jan 1859-Jan 1861), thus making it incorrect to designate his years in office as 1860-1861. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:CB03:2A60:E544:9FB5:FC11:A583 (talk) 15:34, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
