Willie's Speech

[edit]

In a 1990's movie, it is written that Lynch made a proclamation about pitting slaves against each other to limit their own power to uprise against the slave owners. This has been mentioned in a lot of modern civil rights works. Does anyone know if this is true? Did Lynch ever own slaves?

The speech is apparently an internet fiction. See Willie Lynch's Speech. --Hhoblit (talk) 20:17, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How to deal with two William Lynchs?

[edit]

There may be two people called William Lynch - one born 1742, one alive in 1712 (when the famous speech was alleged to have been made), yet only the 1742 one has a page here it seems. Surely we need to make a new entry. Matt Beard (talk) 17:26, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
