Clarity

[edit]

Ernest Rutherford shared his theories on the proton and nucleus with Bragg, who disagreed with him. Does this make sense or not? Barry m 19:42, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PhD?

[edit]

The first line of this article describes Bragg, rather confusingly, as MA (Cantab), PhD. Of which university was he a Doctor of Philosophy? It is stated in this article that the degree of PhD was not awarded at Cambridge until 1919. According to this article, Doctor_of_Philosophy#History_of_the_Ph.D., the PhD reached the USA from Germany in 1861, then Canada in 1900, and the UK in 1917. Since he completed the Mathematics Tripos in 1884, did he immediately go to Germany or the USA to complete a PhD? Presumably he didn't obtain a PhD in Canada or the UK as he was by that time already one of the world's leading physicists. Was he awarded an honorary PhD (which is rare but not unheard of). More likely, I think, is that this ought to say ScD.--Oxonian2006 (talk) 01:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC) hi haha — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.217.57.131 (talk) 07:57, 12 February 2015 (UTC) he died on 2025 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.217.57.131 (talk) 07:59, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
