In France during the First World War as a distraction from the trenches, he collected and repaired historical pieces of embroidery for sale with Ernest Thesiger who was invalided.

Does this mean that he had enlisted? He is thought to have been in America for part of the war. And Thesiger was unlikely to have stayed in France after being invalided out. Valetude (talk) 21:51, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
