Item 3

"Handel's other servants" - presumably they are named in the original. Although they need not be named here, their total number might be useful? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:45, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They are not named in the original.  GFHandel.   21:50, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That really is quite odd. Was that legal? About how many would there have been, one wonders, for a small household such as Handel's. Does the will use the words "to each of"? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:57, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The exact words of the start of the bequest section in Handel's original will are: "I give and bequeath unto my Servant Peter le Blond my Clothes and Linnen, and three hundred Pouds sterl. and to my other Servants a year Wages". It wouldn't have been difficult to determine Handel's servants at the time of his death, and the wording makes eminent sense otherwise (had he specified individual servants) he would have had to update his will every time he hired or fired.  GFHandel.   22:16, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's pretty clear. It would have been the responsibilty of his executor(s) to agree who was in his employ. I would have thought three or four at most. But is there any way of finding out now? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:30, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
