Real date

So do we know a sure date later date for the document? Is is a Spanish-era forgery? A 19th-century forgery? Does the actual document exist or only through later publications? --Error (talk) 10:53, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting

This page needs to be rewritten. There is a new study from 2016 by Ian Christopher Alfonso from a Historical Bulletin by the Philippine Historical Association that made an in-depth analysis of this will, and the history of the will. This will is beyond a mere forgery. At worst a document that has went through a lot of alterations and mistranslations. At best, it is a document in which a lot of its content is corroborated by other separate Spanish-era documents ranging from the late 17th century to the early 19th century.

Also, the page and William Henry Scott himself (yes, I know) got the 1653 date wrong. In Isabelo de los Reyes' work, it was written as "tres dias del mes de octubre de mil seiscientos cincuenta y tres años". This translates as 3 October 1653. It was not "October 3, 1563 as stated by Scott. Therefore it would be discrediting on behalf of the will to make these mistakes and by editors using this mistake as another argument against the credibility of the will. Rather than a completely fraudulent document, it is safer to say that this is a disputed document that went through some alterations, but potentially without malice.
