The Wild Goats of Crete

Hm. There's a much earlier naturalistic version of wild goats in relief and in frescoes on Crete, ca. 1500 BCE.

See, for instance, 2 stone rhytons photographed in Archaeologia Mundi: Crete by Nicolas Platon, 1966, in Figs. 47, 48 and 105. Both are from the Palace of [Zakros], featuring wild goats in fantastic naturalistic detail - even musculature is shown in relief.
