Apparently, a gampi (or ganpi) is Wikstroemia retusa -- http://www.library.cornell.edu/preservation/paper/5FibAtlasEastern1.pdf . And, apparently, it yields the highest-quality paper -- http://www.infomapjapan.com/hstore/200806-infospecial.phtml . And other stuff -- http://cultural-conservation.unimelb.edu.au/PapermakingFibres/gampi.html . How do you format this? I don't know. Those instructions are not very intuitive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.208.4.142 (talkcontribs) 7 January 2012

History of page

[edit]

In the course of today:

  1. I renamed Gampi to Wikstroemia retusa, following the above statement. (This leaving Gampi as a redirect to Wikstroemia retusa).
  2. I then explored further, found several other systematic names associated with "Gampi" or "Ganpi", and expanded the article.
  3. I asked for help at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Plants#Gampi
  4. User:Lavateraguy weighed in with helpful taxonomical expertise and upgraded the article substantially
  5. I decided that Gampi should be more than a redirect to W. retusa, and copied the content from an earlier version to re-create the article on the paper-making fibre, at Gampi. I'm about to go there and cleanup/expand it on those lines, and will remove irrelevant stuff from Wikstroemia retusa.

I'll leave this note on both pages. PamD 16:12, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
