I actually came to this very interesting Wikipedia site because I heard the song below last night and wanted to read the lyrics more carefully. I was very pleased to read the very useful material in this Wikipedia treatment. At the same time, I had to return to Google to find the verbatim lyrics, which are copied below from the site http://www.jacquedee63.com/whoputthebomp.html. (That site appeared to have no specific restrictions on the words below, although it did have a licensing agreement that popped up for a music player. I leave it to you all to determine what is fair use of the material in re the Wikipedia entry.) I was particularly interested in the final (spoken) verse, which as I heard it on the radio seemed to use each of the terms as a specific metaphor. For example, in "You know I mean it from the bottom of my boogity boogity boogity shoo", something like "boogity boogity boogity shoo" would appear to represent "heart" or something a little more extended, rather than purely nonsence syllables. Note: When I look at the material in the copied version below, I am not totally certain that the words in the lyrics below are identical to the words I heard in the radio version last night, although they are at least pretty close.

I left the lyrics in but changed where they were obviously incorrect (you could argue to no end whether it should be "bomp bah bomp" or "bomp a bomp" etc.). I have a feeling there are probably more than Wikipedia policy would suggest. Gr8white (talk) 23:24, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

I removed the "cleanup" template after having cleaned up the article considerably, including:

  • removing trivia section and incorporating relevant material into main sections
  • removed some irrelevant material
  • changing all song titles to use "" in accordance w/ MOS
  • adding several references
  • adding "Chart performance" section

If anyone still has any concerns let me know via this page (I didn't write the article but I feel some ownership after all my editing - I've spent way more time on this than I ever intended)

Someone had a concern about the parody involving the angel's rectum - but it is a pretty straightforward description based on the lyrics and it even uses the "proper" terminology (I didn't write it) - I added a reference and a link to the official lyrics by the parody's author so that should be OK. Donegan?

[edit]

I remember Lonnie Donegan singing it, but I don't know if he ever recorded it. Valetude (talk) 23:03, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
