In an episode of The Simpsons, Homer is looking through some old newspapers and one says in its headline 'so-and-so to blablabla: where's the beef?' and Homer blatantly doesn't understand whatever humour there was in the article and laughs at 'where's the beef'. might be worth including if somebody knows the full headline and a bit more about it. "commercials were aired with other people doing the line, but they were less popular" - Yes.

Programmers are sometimes known to place the hex code 'beef' into memory to enable a scan for the 'beef' word or bytes to obtain its address, with a comment on the code lines performing the scan of "Where's the beef?"

Insularity

I updated the introduction, which failed to mention that usage of this catch phrase is almost entirely limited to certain parts of the US and is unlikely to be known to anyone outside the US.

The actual line she was supposed to say was "Where is all the beef" but because of her shortness of breath due to old age it was spoken "Where's the beef". -Bud

The forgotten commercial...

There was a second "Where's the beef?" commercial that aired about the same time as Peller's first. It featured three old men, and the one exclaiming "Where's the beef!" was a tall thin man with glasses and a booming voice. (When Peller's verson of the commercial was the one to become popular, this one was quietly retired, along with the three old men). I'm not the only one who remembers that, am I? I remember the commercial with the old men as well. I couldn't remember whether it predated or postdated the Clara Peller commercial. I don't know who the old man who said that line was.NIST91 (talk) 00:58, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
