To-do list for Wetherby:
|
Linton is a different village to Linton-On-Ouse where the airfield is located
Is it really necesary to note the fact that Wetherby is closer to Harrogate, then Leeds. Firstly this is debatable, Wetherby is closer to the centre of Harrogate then that of Leeds, however is closer to the edge of the Leeds urban sprawl then that of Harrogate. Also how is this relevent? Wetherby is closer to Weston Supermere then it is Buenos Ares, it's not worthy of note. Harrogate is not a local administrative centre, or a particularly large or important place, therefore its proximity to Wetherby compared to anywhere else is somewhat academic.
- Should it be mentioned that Wetherby is actually nearer to Harrogate than it it Leeds? If no-one opposes then I'll make the change.
- I think it should be mentioned because it has a Leeds postcode, so sems rather odd. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.69.161.157 (talk) 23:42, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Tidy up
[edit]Spent a few minutes tidying up the page. Looks like someone just downloaded the info on www.wetherby.co.uk, without stringing the facts together to make it readable. Jfbcubed 21:37, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Map location
[edit]The location of Wetherby on the map is too far east, despite the tag having the grid reference in. I can't work out how to move it further west.
I tidied things up a bit.
Photography
[edit]A picture of the Town Hall and Racecourse would be preferable
News items
[edit]I think this section should be removed. The items are no longer news (they're from 2004/5) and are not directly relevant to enhancing knowledge of the subject "Wetherby". I'll do so if no-one objects. RichardEll 14:19, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Clean up
[edit]Cleaned the article up, in line with Wikipedia guidelines, as follows:
- vast amounts of this article had been cut and pasted from www.wetherby.co.uk. AFAIK, I have removed the cut-and-pasted text WP:COPY or referenced it appropriately WP:CITE
- removed advertising links WP:LINKSPAM
- removed elements that were based on opinions WP:NPOV
- added references, where possible WP:CITE
- removed elements that appeared more than once in the article
- removed elements that referred obliquely to Wetherby - these are (or should be) covered in the appropriate wiki entry and do not need to be repeated (eg references to facts about Collingham, near Wetherby) WP:NOT#INFO

- I've tried to do much the same again. The article is really srawling out of control and is lacking alot in the way of verifiability. I've reorganised some content per WP:UKCITIES but also done some minor changes for obvious breaches of [[WP::MOS]] (things like WP:EGG). Hope that helps, --Jza84 | Talk 02:18, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
People
[edit]Who is Tom Cullimore, no one has linked him on Wikipedia, is he notable or is this vanity referencing?
Market town
[edit]Wetherby's in the countryside now! It's hardley Ambridge, sounds like a hooray henry's bin writing.
Page restructure
[edit]The last restructure of the page has left many mistakes and if anything has detracted from the page. I am going to restructure it again. Mtaylor848 (talk) 19:51, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Clean up tag
[edit]I am going to remove the clean up tag, there is still work to be done regarding the text, citations etc, but much has been done to the point where the tag is somewhat impertinant. If you wish to replace it, please discuss. Mtaylor848 (talk) 21:51, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Christmas Adventure
[edit]Does anyone have any objection if I remove the reference to the Christmas Adventuere. The thing wasn't even in Wetherby and was only there for a while in December, and to be frank, even at the time was void of any mention on Wikipedia. Mtaylor848 (talk) 21:05, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Crime
[edit]Can I point out that the statistics you have drawn from to show that crime in Wetherby is slightly above the national average is total rubbish. Crime in Wetherby is blatantly not above the national average for a start. The statistics do not go down to individual areas of a city in granularity and therefore you are looking at statistics for the whole of Leeds and calling it Wetherby. Also, the quote about anti-social behaviour on the riverside is massivley out of date and was based on a tiny span of time. I go down there regularly and I have never seen trouble. It is as relevant as saying Wetherby is overwhelmed by horse and carraiges, which i'm sre it was at some point. Please bring this up to date or I will do the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.149.249.108 (talk) 12:52, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
Distances of nearby settlements and places of note
[edit]This section has been deleted by an anon ip editor with the edit summary "not a gazetteer". But isn't this a standard section used in nearly all town and city articles? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:43, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- Similarly, in this edit, the same editor has removed the entire section "Pubs in Wetherby", without any rationale or edit summary. Public houses feature in many town articles and can be quite useful. Wikipedia is not a directory, but I think some kind of balance needs to be struck. At the very least, large-scale removals ought to be explained. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:05, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Clean up
[edit]I am proposing to clean up this article. As I see it is a little long winded and I intend to spin much of it off into related articles and clean up what is left. Mtaylor848 (talk) 11:10, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think that anon BT ip from Leeds has given you quite a head start. But I expect you'll be kind enough to use edit summaries. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:23, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- Seems I spoke too soon. I thought the "under construction" template meant that other editors should hold off for now. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:54, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
Michael Jackson
[edit]In the section on people born in Wetherby, Michael Jackson, the beer writer, is listed. However on the wikipedia page for this person, it says he was born in Leeds and then moved to Wetherby later on. Both of these can't be true at the same time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 20.139.226.71 (talk) 20:34, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
- The source given at Michael Jackson (writer) just says he was born in Leeds, so I have removed the mention of Wetherby. A source will be needed to replace it. I'll remove it from here too, until a source is found. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:29, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
- However, The Guardian says he was born in Wetherby: [1], It also mentions Leeds: "The Jackson family moved to Leeds in the hard postwar years. They lived briefly above a fish and chip shop, but moved first to a council house and then, with Jack, working as a truck driver, bought their own home. So looks like I'll have to change it all back.
