Is this a "thing"?
[edit]Opening up talk to figure out if this can be verified or should be deleted or redirected per this and this editor talk. There are only two citations in this article and neither verifies the name. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 13:10, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- This is a bit confusing - this was the "let's license out our brand name" arm of Westinghouse, whose function is now being handled by a different branch? I can't see anything very useful here, a redirect seems appropriate. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:47, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- Well, here's the best timeline I can work out:
- 1995-1997 - Westinghouse Electric buys CBS, eventually sells off a bunch of assets and renames itself CBS Corp.
- 1998 - CBS Corp creates a subsidiary to license out the Westinghouse brand (called either "Westinghouse Electric Corporation" or "Westinghouse Licensing Corporation" or both).
- 1999-2021 - CBS bought by Viacom. There are mergers and unmergers and shenanigans.
- 2021 - A different company buys the brand and licensing from Viacom and becomes Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Also something about a Wilmerding Electric/Licensing Corporation which isn't clear at all (another post mentioning that here). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 18:22, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- Clarification; Westinghouse Licensing Corporation no longer exists under this name and has no connection to the Westinghouse brand. When ViacomCBS, now Paramount, sold the brand to Westinghouse Electric Corporation in 2021, they renamed all ViacomCBS legacy Westinghouse named entities to "Wilmerding."(Please see ViacomCBS 10K https://ir.paramount.com/static-files/357c6440-f534-480a-b0ac-abb13963f070 ) The use of the name Wilmerding is based on the fact that Wilmerding, PA was home to George Westinghouse's initial company, Westinghouse Air Brake Company. They cannot use the name Westinghouse with these entities as they no longer own the name/brand "Westinghouse." Offthewallsarah (talk) 17:18, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Well, here's the best timeline I can work out:
Name Change
[edit]Westinghouse Licensing Corporation was a company created by ViacomCBS. It was a company essentially in name only and there was no business done under this name. When Westinghouse Electric Corporation purchased the brand rights for "Westinghouse" from ViacomCBS in 2021, the company titled Westinghouse Licensing Corporation was formally changed to Wilmerding Licensing Corporation. Evidence of that is in this particular document. [1] Suggestions on how we should re-name, re-write this page?? Offthewallsarah (talk) 18:19, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Others noted on your talk-page how to proceed. You might try doing that. TEDickey (talk) 19:49, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Tedickey Thanks for the reply. I checked out the talk page but was not quite sure which suggestion you were referring to. Would you be interested in helping getting the correct information in place? Thanks! Offthewallsarah (talk) 14:13, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- I would suggest re-naming the page to Wilmerding Licensing Corporation. First line of text could read, "Wilmerding licensing Corporation, formerly Westinghouse Licensing Corporation, is a Delaware".............. etc Offthewallsarah (talk) 14:19, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
